Mini has officially launched the Cooper S Victory Edition in the Indian market, with a price tag of Rs 57.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This special edition commemorates a significant moment in motorsport history: the 52-numbered original Mini Cooper that clinched victory at the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. Bookings for this limited-run model opened in late February, and it is available in restricted quantities as a completely built unit (CBU) import.
A Nod to Rally Heritage: Exterior Design
The Cooper S Victory Edition draws heavy inspiration from its legendary predecessor. The exterior is finished in an exclusive Chilli Red paint, a direct homage to the 1965 rally car. Subtle yet distinct ’52’ decals adorn the sides, further reinforcing the connection to the iconic race car.
To complement the rally theme, the edition features a classic white roof, though a black roof option is also available for those who prefer a different aesthetic. A prominent white stripe runs from the bonnet to the tailgate, adding a dynamic visual element. The vehicle also sports a twin-ridge roof spoiler and unique 18-inch alloy wheels, enhancing its sporty stance.
Further detailing includes a central exhaust tip and red ‘1965’ decals placed on the tailgate and D-pillars. The inclusion of the John Cooper Works (JCW) cosmetic package elevates the look with ‘John Cooper Works’ badges on the grille and tailgate. Additionally, Mini’s emblems are finished in gloss black, and the exterior trim elements receive a gloss black treatment, lending the car a more aggressive and premium appearance.
Interior Touches: Celebrating a Historic Win
The cabin of the Mini Cooper S Victory Edition is thoughtfully designed to echo the spirit of the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally victory. Upon opening the doors, occupants are greeted by special stickers paying tribute to the legendary driver Timo Makinen and co-driver Paul Easter, the duo who masterminded the original Cooper’s triumph.
The door sills are emblazoned with ‘1965 Victory Edition’ decals, serving as a constant reminder of the car’s special lineage. Inside, the steering wheel’s bottom spoke features a red-and-white colour scheme that mirrors the exterior’s rally-inspired graphics, complete with a ‘1965’ emblem at its base.
A ‘1965’ emblem is also present on the centre armrest, which is upholstered in fabric and features a distinctive hoop. Even the 9.45-inch circular infotainment touchscreen incorporates a bespoke background image showcasing the original Mini Cooper that conquered the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. The commemorative touches extend to the key fob, which bears a ’52’ emblem and ‘1965 Victory Edition’ lettering.
Comfort and Technology Features
Beyond its historical tributes, the Cooper S Victory Edition is equipped with a host of premium comfort and technology features. It includes JCW-spec powered sports seats for the driver and front passenger, ensuring both support and comfort during spirited drives. Automatic climate control manages the cabin temperature efficiently.
Connectivity is seamless with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For enhanced safety, the vehicle incorporates Level 1 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). A heads-up display provides key driving information without requiring the driver to take their eyes off the road. Comfort features include a heated steering wheel for colder journeys and a panoramic glass roof, adding an airy feel to the cabin.
Audiophiles will appreciate the Harman Kardon surround sound system, promising an immersive audio experience. These amenities ensure that the Victory Edition offers a luxurious and technologically advanced driving environment, complementing its performance-oriented nature.
Powertrain: Performance Unchanged
Under the hood, the Mini Cooper S Victory Edition retains the proven powertrain of the standard Cooper S. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that delivers a robust 204hp of power and 300Nm of torque.
This power is channeled to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, enabling brisk acceleration. The car boasts a manufacturer-claimed 0-100kph sprint time of just 6.6 seconds, with a top speed of 242kph. This performance ensures that the Victory Edition is not just about looks but also about delivering a thrilling driving experience.
The performance package is further enhanced by adaptive suspension, which adjusts damping according to driving conditions, providing a balance between comfort and dynamic handling. Additionally, JCW-spec sports brakes are included, offering superior stopping power and confidence, especially during enthusiastic driving. These components underscore Mini’s commitment to sporty driving dynamics, a hallmark of the brand.
