JSW Motors is poised to enter the new energy vehicle (NEV) market with a planned launch of battery electric and plug-in hybrid models. The company’s initial offering, an SUV based on the T2 platform, is slated for a debut around the festive Diwali period. Ahead of this significant market entry, the JSW Group’s passenger vehicle division has announced a strategic collaboration with French software giant Dassault Systèmes.

Embracing Virtual Twins for Automotive Innovation

This partnership will see Dassault Systèmes build ‘virtual twins’ of JSW Motors’ upcoming vehicles. These sophisticated digital replicas will serve as a comprehensive blueprint, enabling JSW to simulate, test, and refine vehicle designs and manufacturing processes in a digital environment before physical production commences. The core of this digital backbone will be Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA platform, which is set to manage the entire lifecycle of JSW’s forthcoming NEV range.

Deepak NG, managing director for India at Dassault Systèmes, highlighted the transformative potential of this collaboration. “By building virtual twins of their products and processes, we will help drive greater innovation, efficiency and agility, ensuring scalability and sustained competitiveness in a rapidly evolving market,” he stated.

NG further elaborated on the platform’s capabilities: “Our 3DEXPERIENCE platform will empower JSW Motors to manage the growing complexity of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) while enabling end-to-end integration across their entire value chain, from design and engineering to manufacturing and lifecycle management.” This integration aims to streamline operations and enhance product development velocity.

End-to-End Integration from Design to Manufacturing

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is designed to consolidate various critical functions, including design, engineering, and testing, within a single, unified system. This approach promises to eliminate data silos and improve collaboration among different development teams. JSW Motors also plans to implement a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) on the same platform, a move intended to significantly improve production tracking and efficiency on the factory floor.

Ranjan Nayak, CEO of JSW Motors Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are delighted to partner with Dassault Systemes to embed its… digital platform across the vehicle lifecycle, from design to manufacturing,” Nayak commented.

He further added, “We are also in advanced discussions with several additional domestic suppliers to further deepen localisation. By leveraging the best global technologies, we aim to accelerate development timelines while enhancing quality.” This focus on localization and global technology integration underscores JSW Motors’ commitment to establishing a robust and competitive NEV portfolio.

State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra

JSW Motors is establishing a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra. This plant will be responsible for the assembly of the upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV, which is based on the Jetour T2 model. Jetour is a subsidiary brand of the Chinese automaker Chery.

The collaboration with Chery extends beyond the T2-based SUV. JSW Motors has also partnered with Chery, which also owns the iCaur brand, for the launch of a V23-based electric vehicle (EV) in India. Test mules for this model have already been observed undergoing trials on Indian roads.

Indications also suggest a potential third product in JSW Motors’ pipeline. This model could be based on the Jaecoo J5 electric SUV, another subsidiary brand of Chery. Spy shots of a test vehicle resembling the Jaecoo J5 have also surfaced recently, hinting at further expansion of JSW’s NEV offerings.

The establishment of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, coupled with these strategic partnerships and technological integrations, positions JSW Motors to make a significant impact on India’s burgeoning new energy vehicle landscape.
