Subaru is set to reveal its latest electric vehicle (EV) at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. The automaker announced on Monday that the new SUV will be officially unveiled next week.
Preview of Subaru’s Next Electric Offering
A teaser image, shared by Subaru, shows a darkened silhouette of the SUV driving on a highway. While details are scarce, the company has indicated that the vehicle will boast an impressive 420 horsepower.
True to Subaru’s heritage, the new electric SUV is expected to feature all-wheel drive. The teaser image also suggests the inclusion of roof rails, a practical element often found on Subaru vehicles.
Speculation Surrounds New EV Model
The exact identity of this new electric model remains unclear based on the initial teaser and limited information. However, Subaru’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Walters, mentioned in February that the company intended to introduce a three-row electric SUV by the end of the year.
This statement, combined with the visual cues, leads to speculation that the new SUV could potentially be an electric counterpart to the Ascent, Subaru’s largest SUV. If previous EV releases are indicative, such as the compact Uncharted (similar to Crosstrek) and the Outback-inspired Trailseeker, this new model might fill a similar slot in the EV market.
Subaru’s Expanding Electric Lineup
The automotive landscape is witnessing a growing trend of shared EV platforms, particularly between Toyota and Subaru. This new model could follow a pattern seen with existing Subaru EVs, which often have a twin from Toyota.
For instance, the Toyota bZ4X shares its platform with the Subaru Solterra, and the Toyota Prius-based bZ models have counterparts in the Subaru Trailseeker and Uncharted. Earlier this year, Toyota unveiled its three-row Highlander EV, which currently lacks a direct Subaru equivalent, raising the possibility that the upcoming Subaru SUV could be positioned to counter this.
Subaru has significantly expanded and improved its EV offerings this year. The 2026 Solterra received a substantial mid-cycle refresh, enhancing its range and charging capabilities. The launch of the Uncharted and Trailseeker models further diversified the brand’s electric portfolio.
With the impending reveal of this new SUV, Subaru is on track to introduce a fourth electric model to its lineup in a relatively short period, demonstrating a rapid acceleration of its electrification strategy.
Unveiling Details
All the specifics regarding this new electric SUV will be disclosed by Subaru during its official reveal event. The company is scheduled to pull back the wraps on the new model on Wednesday, April 1.
